Power x Switch Package

This Package includes a Premium Denk II Binoviewer with 2 SCD Holders, a Dual Arm Newtonian Power x Switch, a 2" Newtonian OCS, an aluminum case and a 1.25" nosepiece. The Binoviewer, Power x Switch and Newtonian OCS are loaded into the 2" focuser of the telescope until the Power x Switch is flush with the top of the telescope focuser tube. The 2" OCS can expand if focus is not immediately reached in the low power 1.4X mode (Logo-Side Arm "IN"). The middle spacer tube has been designed to increase in length and then be locked in position since focus varies from telescope to telescope. For telescopes like the Obsession® and the Discovery® and any other Newtonian where the focal point is located closeer to the focuser base (single eyepieces need to be racked in almost completely), the 1.4X version is recommended unless the user is willing to shorten truss tubes a bit or move the mirror cell forward toward the secondary (in a solid tube Newtonian).

For those using telescopes made by Nightsky®, Starmaster® and other companies where the focus is well out from the focuser base with ample in-travel remaining after single eyepieces are focused, a lower power 1.2X OCS is a viable alternative. This 1.2X Cell offers 1.2X/1.8X and 2.3X when used with the Denk II Newtonian Power x Switch included in this package.

There will most likely be intrusion into the lightpath when the 1.2X is used but this will occur in the Lowest Power Mode of the Power x Switch and the mid and higher Power x Switch settings require racking out of your focuser.  The Denk II Universal Power x Switch Package is featured in this "Newtonian" product section and is the last Package choice found. For scopes like Discover and Obsessions, this 1.4X Newtonain Power x Switch Package is recommended though The Denk II  Universal Power x Switch Package will also allow focus though intrusion at low and mid powers will be significant. We believe that the diffraction effects are minimal but we also wanted to point out that intrusion with the 1.2X optic when used in scopes where the focal plane is close to the upper cage will be evident.

SCT Use
This Package will be usable with SCTs and Meade®, Questar®, and Intes Micro Maksutovs. If the telescope can accept 2" accessories, the OCS must be unthreaded leaving the 2" nosepiece in the Power x Switch. The Binoviewer is then loaded into the 2 star diagonal and two levels of focal reduction result when the Power x Switch Arms are moved to the "IN" positions, one at a time. Generally, .6X occurs with the Logo-Side Arm "IN" and .8X occurs when the opposite arm or the Newtonian Power x Switch is moved to the "IN" position.

Refractor Use
This package may be used with Refractors also. The large 2" format front cell called The Multi-Purpose OCS Cell must be threaded into the 2" Star diagonal filter threads located on the telescope-side star diagonal tube. The binoviewer is loaded into the eyepiece side of the star diagonal and the Power x Switch arms will function allowing a low, mid-range and a higher magnification factor with a single pair of eyepieces. If a 1.25" star diagonal is being used exclusively, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell must be ordered.

Star Diagonals When Used With Refractors
Denkmeier 2" Star Diagonals are ideal for providing a lower-end magnification and maximum illumination when used with this Package and a Refractor. This is because the Newtonian OCS Cell included in this Newtonian Package can be situated very close to the star diagonal mirror. The optic is as close as possible to the star diagonal mirror because the diagonal telescope-side nosepiece can be unthreaded and the OCS Cell can replace it. For added stability, the nosepiece can then be threaded to the OCS Cell. This allows lowest possible magnifications when the Power X Switch Logo-Side Arm is moved to the "IN" position. Illumination is also maximized and the telescope focuser tube position in all Power x Switch settings is brought inward. This last effect is beneficial for balance and allows refractors with less overall focuser travel to reach focus in all three Power x Switch magnification levels. Use of the Denkmeier Diagonal also allows the OCS Cell to thread to the end of the Diagonal Nosepiece as an alternative position. If the nosepiece is not removed from the diagonal and the OCS Cell is threaded to the end, magnification increases and focuser positions of the Power x Switch move outward. Any 2" diagonal with 48mm filter threads on the telescope side tube (Nosepiece) will allow the OCS Cell to install in this latter position.

Coronado Filter Use
An optional 1.25" OCS Cell be used if the binoviewer and Power x Switch System is to be brought to focus in Solarmax Telescopes®, or Refractors equipped with Solarmax Filters. This optional cell installs in the filter threads on the telescope-end of the 1.25" Coronado Blocking Filter star diagonal. This cell must remain in place for the binoviewer and Power x Switch to function. When using this Package in a Solarmax90 Telescope®, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell is unnecessary because this particular telescope has a special shortened tube that is designed to allow the Denkmeier Binoviewer to reach focus (see S&T Magazine Maxscope 90 Hot Product description in Jan 2004 issue).

With Refractors
This Package is designed to work when refractors with 2 star diagonals are used. This package includes a Denk II Premium Binoviewer with 2 SCD Holders and a Denkmeier Aluminum Case. A 2 and 1.25 nosepiece are provided and the Dual Arm Refractor Power x Switch that is also included accepts either nosepiece. A special optical cell described below is also included that must be threaded into the star diagonal.

Star Diagonals
Because users of different Refractors have a variety of 2" star diagonals, it is very important to select the proper system so that the peripheral optic that attaches to the diagonal is compatible. This optic is either called Part SR, or The Low Power S Cell. Both optical accessories have been fine-tuned to provide maximum illumination and lowest magnifications as well as satisfactory telescope focuser positions when the Power x Switch arm positions are changed.

If an AP Maxbright® or Tele Vue Everbright® 2" Star Diagonal is being used, order the package with Part SR. Part SR must always be threaded into the telescope-side of the star diagonal if focus is to be achieved with the binoviewer and the Power x Switch. As the illustration shows, SR is inserted into the telescope-side nosepiece until the 48mm threads of SR meet the female threads of these diagonals. SR can then be retained as it is threaded into each of these diagonals.

If a Denkmeier, William Optics, Vernonscope Diagonal (or other 2" star diagonal with 48mm/2" filter threads on telescope side) is being used, order this package with the Low Power S Cell. Denkmeier Diagonals are ideal for providing a low-end magnification and maximum illumination when used with this Package. This is because the Low Power S Cell included can be situated very close to the star diagonal mirror. As the illustration shows, the optic is as close as possible to the star diagonal mirror because the diagonal telescope-side nosepiece can be unthreaded and the Low Power S Cell can replace it. For added stability, the nosepiece can then be threaded to the Low Power S Cell. This allows lowest possible magnifications when the Power X Switch Logo-Side Arm is moved to the IN position. Illumination is also maximized and focuser position in all Power x Switch settings is brought inward. This last effect is beneficial for balance and allows refractors with less overall focuser travel to reach focus in all three Power x Switch magnification levels. Use of the Denkmeier Diagonal also allows the Low Power S Cell to thread to the end of the Diagonal Nosepiece as an alternative position. If the nosepiece is not removed from the diagonal and the Low Power S Cell is threaded to the end, magnification increases and focuser positions of the Power x Switch move outward.

Once either Part SR or Low Power S has been threaded into the diagonal, the binoviewer may be front-loaded into the eyepiece receptacle of the diagonal. The Power x Switch will now provide 3 instant magnifications with a single pair of eyepieces; 1.4X, 2.25X and 3.5X.

Coronado Filter
An additional 1.25 accessory for the Coronado BF Filter Diagonals is needed if this system is to be brought to focus in Solarmax Telescopes®, or refractors equipped with Solarmax Filters. This optional cell is called the #150 1.25" OCS Cell for Coronado and it threads into the filter threads on the telescope-end of the 1.25" Coronado Blocking Filter star diagonal. This cell must remain in place for the binoviewer and Power x Switch to function. When using a Solarmax90 Telescope®, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell is unnecessary because that telescope has a special shortened tube designed to allow the Denkmeier Binoviewer to reach focus (see S&T Magazine Maxscope 90 Hot Product description in Jan 2004 issue).

With SCTs
This package will work very well with F/10 SCTs and the Power x Switch will function identically to that included in the Denk II SCT Power x Switch Package. The main difference between the Denk II Premium Refractor and SCT Packages is that the Refractor version includes either SR or Low Power S while the SCT version includes a special 3X Multiplier Cell. When an SCT is used, there is no need to thread an optical cell into the telescope-side of the star diagonal. Only the binoviewer with the Power x Switch is loaded into the star diagonal. This Refractor Package version will function in an F/10 SCT and provide .66X, 1.15X and 2X magnifications with a single pair of eyepieces.

With Maks,Classical Cassegrains, Mewlons, Tec Maks
With any telescope that uses a star diagonal but cannot provide the back focus necessary for the binoviewer to reach focus, the system is essentially used in the same way as it is with a refractor. Scopes like Takahashi Mewlons®, TEC Maksutovs®, Classical Cassagrains, and Tal Klestovs require the system to be used as if these scopes were refractors. Just follow the Refractor Usage instructions and thread the 2" Part SR or 2" Low Power S Cell into the 2" Diagonal on the telescope-side. If a 1.25" star diagonal is being used, remember that the optional 1.25" #150 OCS Cell Code must be installed in the star diagonal at all times.

Maksutovs
When using telescopes like Questars®, Meade ETX90 and 125s®, Meade Maksutovs, Orion® Maks, Intes Micros® and some others, only the binoviewer and Power x Switch are necessary in either a 1.25" or 2" star diagonal. Focal reduction is possible using the Power x Switch in these telescopes and due to the long focal length and small relative aperture inherent to many of these Maksutov telescopes, reduction may be very desirable. Our Patent Pending Power x Switch contains the Star*Sweeper" and taking advantage of this feature will no doubt prove attractive to you. With the Low Power (Logo-Side) Power x Switch Arm in the "OUT" position, normal magnifications will result. Moving the Logo-Side Power x Switch Arm to "IN" creates focal reduction. Moving in the opposite arm creates 2X.

This Package includes a Premium Denk II Binoviewer and 2 SCD Holders, a Dual Arm SCT Power x Switch, a special 2 3X Multiplier Cell, 1.25 and 2 nosepieces, engraved aluminum etepiece holder plugs and aluminum caps for the optical accessories, and comes shipped in a lockable Denkmeier Aluminum Case.

What The Package Does When Used With SCTs
The binoviewer and Power x Switch allows focal reduction, normal and 2X magnifications instantly in most F/10 SCTs. The Power x Switch that is attached to the binoviewer will accept either the 2 or 1.25 nosepiece included and allows an F/10 SCT to operate with .66X focal reduction, 1.15X magnification or 2X magnification. An additional 2 format 3X Multiplier Cell is included. The Power x Switch Arms are moved to the OUT position and this cell is threaded to the 2 nosepiece. If a 2" star diagonal is not already owned, be sure to consider adding a top quality 2 Denkmeier Star Diagonal for your SCT if this package is selected.

Maksutovs
When using telescopes like Questars®, Meade ETX90 and 125s®, Meade Maksutovs, Orion® Maks, Intes Micros® and some others, use the 1.25" nosepiece or the 2" nosepiece in either a 1.25 or 2 star diagonal. Focal reduction is possible using the Power x Switch in these telescopes and due to the long focal length and small relative aperture inherent to many of these smaller Maksutov telescopes, the focal reduction mode of the Power x Switch is very desirable. Our Patent Pending Power x Switch contains the Star*Sweeper" and taking advantage of this feature will no doubt prove attractive to you. With the Low Power (Logo-Side) Power x Switch Arm in the OUT position, normal magnifications will result. Moving the Logo-Side Power x Switch Arm to IN produces focal reduction. Moving in the opposite Power x Switch Arm produces 2X magnification.

Coronado Filter Use
An additional 1.25 accessory for the Coronado BF Filter Diagonals is needed if this system is to be brought to focus in Solarmax Telescopes®, or Refractors equipped with Solarmax Filters. This optional cell  threads into the filter threads on the telescope-end of the 1.25 Coronado Blocking Filter star diagonal. This cell must remain in place for the binoviewer and Power x Switch to function. When using this Package in a Solarmax90 Telescope®, the 1.25 Refractor OCS Cell is unnecessary because this telescope has a special shortened tube that is designed to allow the Denkmeier Binoviewer to reach focus (see S&T Magazine Maxscope 90 Hot Product description in Jan 2004 issue).

This Package includes a Premium Denk II Binoviewer, 2 SCD Holders, Dual Arm Universal Power x Switch,
2" Newtonian Spacer Tube assembly, 2" Hollow Nosepiece and 2" Multi-Purpose OCS Cell. A Denkmeier Aluminum case is also provided and the binoviewer and the binoviewer and other optical elements are protected with machined aluminum caps and machined laser engraved dust plugs for the eyepiece holders.

Newtonians
The 2" Nosepiece, 2" Newtonian Spacer Tube assembly, and 2" Multi-Purpose OCS Cell are used as a single connected unit and threaded into the Power x Switch. This allows a Newtonian to operate at 1.2X, 1.8X, and 2.3X by moving the Power x Switch Arms "IN" and then "OUT" so that three instant magnification settings are possible. The package is shipped in the Newtonian configuration.

Refractors
The middle Newtonian Spacer Tube is never used with a Refractor. The 2" Multi-Purpose OCS Cell is threaded into the telescope-side of a 2" star diagonal filter threads. The Binoviewer is then loaded into the eyepiece-side of the star diagonal and low, mid-range and high magnification will occur when moving the Power x Switch Arms "IN", and then "OUT".

SCTs
Only the binoviewer with Dual Arm Power x Switch and 1.25" or 2" nosepiece is used for reduction and normal magnifications. Move the Logo-Side Power x Switch Arm "IN" for .6X reduction and "OUT" for 1.15X (normal) magnifications. Move the Non-Logo-Side Power x Switch Arm IN for .8X reduction. If the 2" Multi-Purpose OCS Cell is threaded to the 2" nosepiece and the Power x Switch Arms are moved to the "OUT" position, 2X magnification will result.

Maksutovs, Classical Cassegrains, Mewlons, Tec Maks
With any telescope that uses a star diagonal but cannot provide the back focus necessary for the binoviewer to reach focus, the system is essentially used in the same way as it is with a refractor. Scopes like Takahashi Mewlons®, TEC Maksutovs®, and Classical Cassagrains require the system to be used as if these scopes were refractors. Just follow the Refractor instructions and remember that the 2" Multi-Purpose OCS Cell must be installed in the star diagonal at all times. Focal reduction cannot be achieved in such telescopes.

When using telescopes like Questars®, Meade ETX90 and 125s®, Meade Maksutovs, Orion® Maks, Intes Micros® and some others, the Multi-Purpose OCS Cell should not be installed in the diagonal. Focal reduction is possible when using the Power x Switch in these telescopes. The 1.25" nosepiece is provided in order to allow scopes with 1.25" focusers to be used. Due to the long focal length, and small relative aperture inherent to Maksutovs, the two reduction modes of the Denk II Universal Power x Switch are very desirable for deep sky work. Push the Power x Switch Arms to the IN position for focal reduction. If the Maksutov has a 2" focuser and diagonal, the 2" Multi-Purpose OCS Cell may be threaded on for 2X magnification. The Power x Switch Arms must be moved to the "OUT" position.

Coronado Filters
An additional 1.25" accessory for the Coronado BF Filter Diagonals is needed if this system is to be brought to focus in Solarmax Telescopes®, or refractors equipped with Solarmax Filters. This optional cell is called the #150 1.25" OCS Cell and it threads into the filter threads on the telescope-end of the 1.25" Coronado Blocking Filter star diagonal. This cell must remain in place for the binoviewer and Power x Switch to function. When using a Solarmax90 Telescope®, the 1.25" Refractor OCS Cell is unnecessary because that telescope has a special shortened tube designed to allow the Denkmeier Binoviewer to reach focus (see January 2004 S&T Magazine Maxscope 90 Hot Product description).
